Reinforced gabions, also known as heavy-duty reinforced hexagonal twisted woven gabions, are engineered with reinforced hexagonal mesh. Compared with standard gabion mesh, this design delivers much higher tensile strength. The reinforcing wire is produced with a diameter no less than the selvedge edge wire, forming a robust mesh structure for high-load engineering scenarios.
There are two common structural types for reinforced gabions. The first type is reinforced mesh gabion, with reinforcing wires integrated parallel or vertical to the weaving direction during production. The second type is reinforced gabion box, fitted with an extra mesh panel attached to the rear of the gabion box. This extended mesh panel embeds deep into the soil, generating reliable anti-slip friction between soil and mesh, and features excellent environmental compatibility.
Available Wire Coatings
We supply reinforced gabions with multiple coating options to match site conditions. Plain hot-dip galvanized and Galfan (Zn-5%Al) coated wires are available. For sites with heavy pollution, acidic soil or long-term UV exposure, we offer Galfan + PVC coated mesh. The PVC layer is typically around 1 mm thick; different colour options are available so the gabion structure can blend naturally with the surrounding landscape.
